Toilet Installation Across the Perth Hills

Old one out, new one in, done properly the first time

Swapping a toilet looks like a simple job until you get the old one off the floor. Then you find the waste outlet sits somewhere the new suite wasn’t designed for, or the floor under it has been wet for a while, or the old pan was bedded in with something that was never meant to come out again.

Andrew checks the existing setup, fits the new suite, connects it and tests everything before leaving. You get the price before the work starts.

Know the signs

When People Replace a Toilet

There's normally a clear trigger, not just a toilet that's a bit tired. These are the four Andrew sees most often across the Hills.

01

The old one has failed for good

A cracked pan or a suite that can't be repaired because the parts no longer exist.

02

Bathroom renovation

New floor, new suite, and usually a change of position while everything's open.

03

Upgrading an old single-flush unit

Older suites can use noticeably more water per flush than current dual-flush models.

04

Adding a second toilet

A powder room, a granny flat or a laundry conversion, where new drainage work is part of the job.

Not Sure You Need a New One?

A running cistern or a weeping seal is usually a toilet repair rather than a replacement, and a much smaller job.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a toilet installation take?

A straight swap where the setout matches is usually a short job. What adds time is anything that turns up once the old suite is off the floor: a waste outlet that doesn’t line up with the new pan, flooring that’s been wet underneath, or a water connection that needs redoing while it’s accessible. You’ll know which of those you’re looking at when the job is quoted. That’s the job itself, getting one booked in typically runs one to two weeks out, longer where a part needs matching.

Send Andrew the model before you buy and he’ll check the setout matches what’s already there, which saves the trip back to the shop. He can supply it too if you’d rather not shop around, just ask when you call and he’ll sort it either way.

P-trap sends the waste out horizontally through the wall, S-trap sends it straight down through the floor. Your drainage is already set up for one or the other, and the new suite has to match it, including the setout, which is the distance from the wall to the centre of the waste. If the new toilet doesn’t match, either the toilet goes back or the drainage has to be altered, and the second one is a much bigger job.

Often, yes, though it stops being a swap and becomes drainage work, so it’s priced differently and takes longer. The thing worth knowing is that it’s far easier before the bathroom is tiled than after. Moving a toilet once the floor is down means lifting what’s just gone in, so if a renovation is on the cards it’s a decision worth making early.

No, that’s on the customer. Andrew fits the new suite, connects it and tests everything, but taking the old one away isn’t included, so it’s worth sorting your own disposal before he arrives.

Toilet Installs in Older Hills Bathrooms

Older Hills bathrooms throw up the setout problem more often than newer builds, because the drainage went in before current suites existed and nothing is quite standard. That's the main reason the measuring happens before you buy. On a renovation it's worth sorting the toilet position before the tiler starts, since moving it afterwards means lifting what's just gone down.
